4 Hidden Gems of Rajasthan
Every travel agency in India does Rajasthan and will take you to all the major tourist destinations in this diverse state. However, when you travel with us, we go a step beyond what a regular travel planner does. We will create a bespoke itinerary for you to explore the hidden gems of Rajasthan, to go beyond the forts and palaces and to experience the region as a local. Here are four of the hidden luxury holiday destinations we love to visit in Rajasthan.
Narlai, Pali
Nestled amongst the statuesque Aravalli Hills, Narlai is easily accessible from both Jodhpur and Udaipur. Stay at the Rawla Narlai, the hunting lodge for the Jodhpur Royalty, now a heritage hotel. We love the peaceful surrounds of this property – a restful stop during your busy itinerary. For a special experience, we book you a dinner at the stepwell, located a few minutes by bullock cart or jeep, in the middle of the forest. A mesmerizing evening under the stars, with a Sufi singer singing live for you. The hospitable staff will set up a sumptuous Rajasthani meal for you, as you dine in the magical setting surrounded with oil lamps lighting the stepwell.
Book a leopard jeep safari to watch these mysterious creatures in their natural habitat.
Mandawa
Mandawa is a hidden gem that is often referred to as an ‘open air art gallery’ for the various incredible fresco painted Havelis located here. Historically, this city was on the famous Silk Route to China which mean that rich merchants from around the globe would stop here before travelling further. Stay at one of these merchant’s old painted havelis which have now been restored into some of the lovely luxury hotels in India. Stay at the charming Vivaana Culture Haveli before visiting the Mandawa Castle for a look back at the region’s history. This gorgeous structure is made of white, blue and red marble with each room decorated using antique furniture and stunning frescoes.
Samsara Desert Camp & Resort
Rajasthan is renowned for offering some of the best luxury desert camps and Samsara is one of our favourites. Located in the heart of Rajasthan, easily accessible from Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, Samsara is an oasis of beauty and calm amongst the ever-changing sands of the Thar Desert. We suggest an overnight stop here in the luxury tents on the seemingly endless sand dunes, with Rajasthani Folk artists entertaining you in a stunning setting under the stars, over dinner around the bonfire.
Dera Amer
Another great experience to spend time in the company of friendly Elephants and Camels, is the Dera Amer, a short drive from the Jaipur City. Being an elephant rescue camp in a private forest at the bottom of the Aravalli Hills, it is a great choice as an add-on for a family holiday in India. The elephants here are well looked after and interacting with them, feeding and bathing them, is a favourite activity for adults and children alike. You can enjoy a lazy lunch, while the animals take a stroll around you, in the luscious gardens of the property.
